Social Networking
The Social and Networking Committee provides an atmosphere conducive to professional networking for yKAN’s members. As a networking organization, yKAN recognizes that there are a variety of arenas that will attract professionals with different areas of interest. The Social & Networking Committee specifically encourages networking in a social atmosphere where members can initiate and maintain contacts with associates in our chosen and related career paths. Community Service
The Community Service Committee monitors the needs of different communities and devises plans and programs to fulfill those needs. With the cooperation of yKAN’s members, Community Service Committee implements those plans. The Community Service Committee continually monitors other’s needs in order to respond accordingly. Advancement
The Advancement Committee promotes, encourages, and fosters educational activities, programs, and career opportunities to increase Korean-American’s status in the United States. By participating in various political activities the Advancement Committee further establishes and solidifies Korean-American’s standing in mainstream society. (#Advancement)
Membership
The Membership Committee’s roles include management and regulation of the members of yKAN. The committee insures that the rights and duties of all members are honored while creating and developing a true “network” among the existing and new members. (#Professional Development)
About
Mission:
Our mission is to elevate Korean-American professionals by fostering educational programs, community service, and networking opportunities. Through these activities yKAN addresses the issues of our community and provides a forum for those who share common experiences and face similar challenges.
History:
The young Korean American Network started in 1989, however was officially inaugurated in August 30, 1990 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-partisan organization. Their first president, Michael Han, was a founding member who sought to create the organization as a response to the lack of a networking hub for the Korean-American community in New York.
Since its inauguration, the organization has grown in the past two decades in number with over 5,000 members receiving the organizations newsletters and announcements.
Objectives:
- Create a professional network to facilitate the even exchange of ideas and common goals among all Korean American professionals
- Foster a professional Korean-American presence in our community by sponsoring educational programs and opportunities
- Promote social awareness and activism through community service
- Foster mutual understanding between Korean-Americans and other ethnic groups
- Promote greater opportunities for the current and future generations of all Korean Americans
